Vanessa “V” Steele’s work explores themes of identity and morality through textured compositions in monochromatic tones. Her practice is rooted in personal reflection, shaped by both health and relational challenges. Through layering and deconstructing, her work plays up the tension between presence and absence, inviting viewers to confront their own emotional landscapes and philosophies.

Vanessa’s creative journey began in early childhood when her uncle, also an artist, gifted her her first sketchbook. Throughout high school, she experimented in realistic drawing, painting, and photography.
She then went on to earn a BFA from Appalachian State University, where she developed strong skills in visual language, composition, and creative thinking.
After five years working in marketing and design agencies in Charlotte as an award-winning Art Director, she decided to start her own freelance design business, while also building a career in visual arts. Her artwork has been featured in several prominent galleries and venues in North Carolina, including The Mint Museum and Goodyear Arts.
